This bowl is not black walnut but claro walnut that only grows in Northwestern US and is not usually seen on the East Coast. The bowl is coated with 4 coats of food safe finish and is intended to be used as a serving dish. After use, hand wash it in warm soapy water, rinse and dry. Use of wooden or plastic utensils is highly recommended. The finish does not require reoiling as with natural oil finishes. The bowl is not microwaveable or dishwasher safe. It is also recommended that it not be used for protracted refrigerated storage.
