Myrtle trees grow primarily in the American Northwest and is not seen often on the East Coast.. It is a closely grained hard wood colored a light tan that is not expected to change with use. The dark mark is in the wood. The bowl is coated with 4 coats of food safe polyurethane finish that does not require additional oiling as with natural oils. Use of wooden of plastic utensils is highly recommended. Cleaning following use consists of hand washing in warm soapy water, rinsing and drying. It is not microwavable or dishwasher safe and the bowl should not be used for extended refrigerated storage.
