#1639 9 3/4" W. X 4" H Spalted Apple Bowl

This gorgeous spalted bowl was turned from a piece of apple harvested in Connecticut. Spalting is an early party of the decay process that occurs after a tree has died. It consists of color change to the wood and occasionally, black lines in the wood. This piece has both. The process is stopped when the wood is dried and when caught at this stage does not affect the strength of the wood.

The bowl is coated with four coats of food safe polyurethane finish so it may be used either as a serving dish or a display piece. If used for food, clean-up is done by a hand wash in warm soapy water, rinse and dry. Do not leave it water to soak. It is not dishwasher safe nor is it microwavable and should not be used for extended food storage but may be used as a fruit bowl. Wooden or plastic serving utensils should be used. Due to the type of finish used, it does not require application of any additional finish as with natural oil finishes.
