This bowl was turned from a single cherry burl that was harvested in Schuylkill County PA. The rim on this piece is what is referred to as a natural edge as it follows the outside surface of the tree rather than being cut flat as most bowls are done. The dark material on the rim is the bark of the tree. As the bark is quite fragile it is recommended that this is NOT used as a serving piece as the bark will broken off by handling the bowl. As you can see, a piece of the bark was lost during turning this bowl.
