#1188 11 1/2" W X 3 1/4" H River Birch Bowl

River Birch is not a wood you see very often but this piece proved to be quite elegant in the final piece. There is a small check or crack that developed during drying that was repaired with a malachite inlay that is permanent This piece came from a sawmill in the Cascade Mountains of Missouri but I don’t have any additional history for it.

The bowl was turned as a display piece but is coated with four coats of food safe polyurethane finish so it may also be used as a serving dish or fruit bowl. The inlay was done before finish was applied and is sealed in. if used for food, cleanup is quite straight-forward. Simply hand wash in warm soapy water, rinse and dry. The bowl is not dishwasher safe and is not microwavable. Also, it should not be used for extended food storage. Due to the finish used, it does not require application of any additional finish as with oil type finishes. If used for food, wooden or plastic utensils should be used.
