4 1/2” W X 10 1/2” Tall Big leaf maple grows only in the Great Northwest US and Southeastern Canada so it is not usually seen outside that area. The grain is quite distinctive and stands out from other species of maple making this a one-of-a- kind piece. The tung oil finish used on the vase provides a nice warm glow from the piece. It also does not require any additional oiling to keep it fresh as with other natural oil finishes as this finish dries to a hard shell. One thing about the finish is that it is not intended to stand up to long exposure to water so a plastic or glass liner will be needed to hold water for a flower display. Fortunately, the piece has been turned to accommodate a ¾ liter plastic bottle - just cut the top of the bottle off and insert it into the vase to hold the water. Once the flowers are passed their prime, remove the bottle ad throw it away. Be sure to dry any water that may spill on the inside of the vase.
